Who can get the COVID vaccine?

If you have received an invitation from your GP surgery and you are able to access the booking system after entering your details, it implies that you are eligible to receive the COVID Vaccination. In Tameside and Glossop, NHS COVID-19 Vaccination Service is currently invite only and available to patients who are enrolled in a Tameside and Glossop GP practice.

People who are suffering from a fever-type illness or COVID symptoms should also postpone having the vaccine until they have recovered. If you suffer from significant allergies like tongue swelling, airway problems and significant physical symptoms following exposure to an allergen, you should not book an appointment for vaccination.

You will see a range of vaccination sites available to book on the website. Please ONLY book at the site which has been mentioned in your text message/ letter you have received or have been advised on phone.

About the Vaccine

Following extensive trials, the safe and effective vaccine for COVID-19 has been approved by regulators and is now available.

The vaccines are being given at special hubs created for joint vaccination of patients from a number of practices belonging to a Primary Care Network. The vaccines are currently not available at your GP Practices.

In Tameside and Glossop the ONLY Hyde NHS COVID-19 Vaccination Service at Hyde Leisure Centre will be a drive-through model and rest of the available sites are NOT drive through.

When it is the right time, people will receive an invitation to come forward for the vaccine. For most people this will be a letter, or text message either from their GP or a phone call from GP surgery.

ALL APPOINTMENTS MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE. The invite letter/ text message will include all the information you will need to book appointments. Please do not contact the NHS to get an appointment until you get an invitation to book.

Instructions for Hyde Leisure Centre ONLY:

WHERE POSSIBLE IT IS ADVISED THAT THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE DRIVING DO NOT RECEIVE THE VACCINATION. However, if you do not have someone to drive you to the vaccination service, you can still attend but will need to park up to receive the vaccine and wait in the car for 10 minutes post vaccine. The marshals will inform you of where to park. Please follow safe travel guidance.

Information for those attending other centres except Hyde Leisure Centre:

Please arrive only at the appointed time. There are facilities for waiting. Please walk inside the venue and receive instructions form the welcome Marshall. You will have to wait for 15 minutes following your vaccination so that we may make sure that you do not suffer any side-effects.

For Glossop Cricket Club:

Following your vaccination, you will be asked to wait for 15 minutes in an area where weather condition may not be perfect. Please wear appropriate heavy woollen clothing including, caps and gloves.

How many doses will I get?

This is your first dose of the vaccination with possibly a second dose invitation within the next 3 to 12 weeks depending on the NHS England instructions. Following the first dose, please await further instructions.
